Hey Krag Krew,

So I'm on the 12th coat of linseed oil and the stock is looking fantastic. However I have a more pressing issue in regards to getting the metal parts stripped of that chrome and nickle finish so I can have them blued. I have reached out to several plating companies in the Milwaukee area and none of them will touch the project. My guess is they don't whan to play with firearms (no FFL). I did find some gun restoration places that can do the work, but it is going to be VERY expensive ($450 - $805 per rifle vs. $125-$150 if bluing only). I was looking at the Brownells Super Stip (http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/metal-prep-coloring/pre-finish-surface-prep/super-strip--prod20613.aspx). Any one have experience using this? :-/

For reference, here is a picture that shows (what I believe to be a thin chrome coating) the chrome and where it is flaking off on the bolt.

I'm not entirely positive about this... but I thing if you were to have it Parkerized, it would need to be stripped first. That being the case, I know someone who does Parkerizing.

Check out Shuff's Parkerizing. Tim Shufflin works primarily on M1/M1A/M14 rifle variants, but may be able to help. If he doesn't do any stripping of bluing or Chrome, he may know someone who does. You can find his web site here: http://shuffsparkerizing.com/ and find his contact information there.
