Bluing to match?

Post by Nono »

Is there a product already tested to help on bluing new old stock parts to replace worn or pitted parts? I have a 1898 Krag 30-40 year made 1901.
I dont want to do any kind of repairs or total re-bluing but I have found a few original parts that my rifle needed and they dont math the rifle bluing. Some of these parts are old stock but they look a bit too new to be able to replace them and keep my rifle in par to original condition.
Anyone has use anything or has recommendations?

Matching new blue to old blue can be quite a challenge. A good place to start is Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. I've found it to be one the better of the cold blues on the market.

Oxpho-blue has worked well for me as well. Testing on unseen places is a good idea as well.
