I have replaced the rear sight ladder with a better one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/85591315@N00/10907231754/in/set-72157636869340976

Now its time to take it out to the range (my back yard) and make the necessary adjustments.

No adjustments were needed. I shot 2 groups of 5, letting the barrel cool between groups. All but 1 was within one inch of the bullseye at 100 yards 3 were right on. The one was way off. I,m blaming that on the ammo. It is very windy here today.
I would like to know how to use all the functions of the rear sight. is there any information on these?

Joe Poyer describes it pretty well in his book "The American Krag Rifle and Carbine" Windage is adjustable by releasing the binding lever. Each increment or point of windage moves the shots 5.86 inches at 100 yards (11.74 inches at 200 yards). Elevation - (with sight ladder down) move slide up the incline for 100 to 400 yards. "B" is battle range and rifle is aimed at center of mass (bullet will strike man size target from 100 to 550 yards). With sight ladder up, move slide to desired range, 450 to 1,900 yards with 'U' notch. Peep hole permits fine sighting from 100 to 1,775 yards. Notch at top of ladder is for 2,000 yard volley fire. Rifle sight has built in compensation for bullet drift. Thank you General Buffington! (Inventor and proponent of this sight).
NOTE: Franklin Mallory ("The Krag Rifle Story") reports each windage point (increment) on the 1901 sight base represents 4 minutes of angle (4 inches at 100 yards).

Great information butlersrangers. I have ordered a copy of the book you got the information out of. Should be a good thing to have with the rifle.
