Ed: Nice gift from Dad! (It looks like the 'flat' spring on your magazine door hinge pin is slightly out of position. Next time you have your Krag out of its stock, rotate the pin and snap the spring into its recess). This picture shows spring rotated 'out of position':Image

They sometimes rotate with the opening and closing of the magazine. They're not supposed to though. The fix is a very careful bending down of the leaf so that it fits in the slot that retains it. Making sure the pin is lubricated can help too.

Stock wood sometimes prevents hinge-pin and flat spring from opening, but not always. Madsenshooter's remedy is correct.
