Need bayonet to fit my m1898 U.S. krag made 1903

Post by Krag415626 »

I have m1898 Springfield krag sn#415626- stock is in good original condition. However, the forend was shortened many years ago exactly 15/16 of an inch to accommodate a longer bayonet grip handle. Were these rifles modified by soldiers to hold different bayonets? Any recommendations? Please help - thanks in advance!

krag415626: The modification to your stock is not correct. Either leave it as it is or have a piece of walnut shaped and spliced onto your forend tip to restore the original length. If cleverly done and stained to match, it would be almost invisible.

Sketch gives correct dimension from rear of lower band to front of upper band and stock.
