Greeting eveyone,
Does anyone have any load data suggestions for cast bullets? I want to try them in my 1898 before I go and buy a mold etc. From what I've read, I like the Lyman 311284 bullets. I want to do this an an availablity issue. Here in MT our Sporting Stores are wiped out of any 150-220gr. Mail order about the same.
If this is a duplicate post or a redundant subject, I apologize, as today is my first day in KCA.
Thank you,
Paul K.

Re: Cast Bullets in my 1898
I use a 200 grain Lee bullet over an appropriate charge of Trail Boss powder. You can find instructions for the use of Trail Boss at IMRs web site. I load this in several bottleneck rifle cases, they all work great with it. Usualy around 1200 FPS, gentle report, light recoil, excellent accuracy. Great fun with steel plates.
An excellent article:

Re: Cast Bullets in my 1898
I just got an order of the Lyman 311284 from Montana Bullet Works and have loaded over Varget.
The accuracy load in Lyman 49 (which seems to give slightly higher ranges than others) is AA-5744 18 grs 1429 fps - 28.0 grs at 1995. IMR 4198 is the same grain range and Sr-4759 is start at 15.5 (1426 fps) and Max at 24.5 (1945 fps). Those are specific to the Lyman 311284.

Re: Cast Bullets in my 1898
My 92/96 rifles like the NOE 311365, a spire point. I see NOE has a 5 cavity in stock. http://noebulletmolds.com/orders/catalog/index.php?cPath=30&sort=2a&page=3 I generally use slower burning powders than most cast bullet shooters. The cast bullets seem to like the lower pressure. Group was shot with issue sights at around 65yd. Less than an inch anyway. 36.5gr of RL19 fired with a cci 250 magnum primer.
