Re: Then, can someone please describe
You can find one illustrated description in Brophy's book. In essence -
No distinctive markings.
Arsenal crown on barrel cut to 22".
M1905 front sight assembly with pin finished flush.
1901 rifle rear sight and handguard.
1899 carbine stock.
Solid band with band spring.
Others assert some were made with cut-down rifle stocks instead of 1899 carbine stocks. Such may have sling swivels and split rifle band with pin.
Workmanship on crown and front sight pin is apparently a key identifying feature and difficult to evaluate without experience. Period commercial cut-downs exhibit comparatively crude workmanship in these areas.

While this can be true, there were gunsmiths then (and now) with the ability and equipment to do a quality job. With out proof, DCM/NRA paper work or receipt, do not pay a premium for one. These are an interesting part of the history of the Krag but, and more so recently, rival the 1898 carbine in misrepresentation.
