Bitterroot valley ammo

Hey Gents, Has anyone any feed back to offer reguarding Bitterroot Valley 30-40 Krag ammo? They seem to offer the lowest cost on factory load Krag ammo and I'm thinking of stocking up with an order from them.

Have used the 165 grain BV ammo with good results.

I have used their 165s. In my model 1898 all pointed bullets, including these, jam. Other than that, they work ok. I contacted their tech support and asked about pressure. They said their 30-40 ammo is below SAAMI specs and probably has lower pressure than Win or Rem 180s.

I reload for my Krags with 165 grain spitzers (pointed), and occasionally 180 grain spitzers. They don't jam in either of my 1898s. I believe that it's hit or miss... jam in some, but not others. I've also heard that a missing magazine cutoff will cause some feed problems, but that's not the case in my sporter. There is a remedy for feed problems with spitzers... but some of the more knowledgeable members on this forum should talk about that because I don't have first hand experience.

Stumbled across another manufacture of 30-40 ammo today. Their website is horrible and has very little info about their products, but they do make rounds for our Krags. Anyone ever shot or know anything about these boys?

All of the ammo sources listed above are cheaper than the Win and Rem loads sold by Midway and other major on-line retailers. Does anyone have experience with the reliability of the products from these less-known ammo makers, and does anyone know about the pressure produced by their loads?

Took my Krag for her debut outing yesterday. My shooting companions were full of oohs & aahs in regards to the condition of the 110 year old rifle, the unique loading gate design and the smooth function of the action.

The Krag ended up sending 60 rounds down range by a variety of shooters at 1liter bottles size targets at a distance of a paced off 75 yards. Ammo use was a mix of Remington 180 gr. and Bitterroot Vally 150 gr.

Both types of ammo feed silky smooth, no hint of the jamming issue that seems to effect some others krag shooters, when using a spitzer bullet. Most likely, Ill end up shooting mostly Bitterroot, since the price is the easiest of the wallet.

I was very pleased with the accuracy of the rifle and ammo. The sections of cut 6x6 studs didnt stand a chance as long as the shooter remembered his/her correct breathing and trigger pull combo.

At some point I will have to get the Krag on a shooting range and see just how tight she can hold a group on a bulls eye target.
