A Winchester "Oops"

Post by butlersrangers »

I remember back in the 1960's Winchester ran a big national photo add: "19 Texas Rangers, only 18 Winchesters". The historic photograph showed 18 Rangers with Model 1895 Winchester lever-actions. The 19th Ranger, the knowledgeable chap 5th from the right, has a Krag. The add implied his brother officers were better armed, but we know different! The add stirred up quite the response from Arizona. In reality, the lawmen were Arizona Rangers keeping the Peace during a 1901 Mine Strike (Clifton/Morenci). I remember Winchester Firearms making amends by sending an advertising executive to Arizona for a mock execution. I believe he was pardoned by the Governor. Lots of things were more fun back in the day! (Sorry I could not find a better copy of the photo).Image
