Congratlation.

Any pictures would help, but as 1917 and that long serial it is a Norwegian krag rifle, m1894, and if not sporterized, well DO NOT. Keep it original!

Definately historical value:

Simular year production, and a few number from your serial, a sporterized one: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=193855407#PIC The only left on it that is not modified is the bolt an the magazine parts.

I yours is original, keep it original.

If in original configuration Please do not sporterize it!!!
Far too many Norwegian Krags are already sporterized and can be had from time to time on the auction sites.

It is a norwegian Krag/Jrgensen M1894, produced by Kongsberg Vpenfabrikk as all except for a few during 1896-97 that were built by Steyr. Used by the norwegian army until ww2, later sold out to sivilians that have them for huntig and sport/target shooting.
Few left in pure original state. Original state in US in good condition sold for up to $2000, sporterized bellow 1000.

The most of the history about it found on Wikipedia, linked to in a earlier replay.
