Will a stock for an 1898 Krag fit a M1894 Krag?

Yes. I found an 1898 stock for sale, and have an 1897 Steyr (was told it was an M1894), that has a sporter stock.

No. If the barrel has not been cut on your rifle and is still 29", you need the "Long Krag" stock for the M1894. They are rare. If you are just missing the forend tip and handguard, you might get away with replacing just those and hiding the splice under the band. Look at my posting on this topic to see what can be done. If the barrel has been cut to carbine length, you'll need the M1912 carbine stock or a cut-down M1894 stock. You can buy stocks or have them made. There's a guy on Gunbroker.com who sells under the name "Norwayspare" who sells part and makes complete stocks or pieces. He's located in Norway, and knows these rifles well. Once in a blue moon, you'll see a stock for these rifles on eBay.

Good luck.

The barrel is original length. It is 29" with the bayonet lug.

OK. That makes the restoration job more straightforward, although not cheap. If you need parts, you can reach "Norwayspare" at: haavarbu@online.no. His name is Hvard Buhaug.
