What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
Hi guys, I recently got a beutiful Krag rifle, it is in perfect condition ( I live in Iceland by the way) but I cant figure out which model it is. The only markings on it are the number 23102 quite a few times ( and the letter S under it in one place) then the year 1914 is engraved in one place. Please help me out with this and maybe give me an idea of what it is worth. Best regards, Elli
Re: What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
I have the same question but with pics! Can anyone identify this rifle, the model, value, rarity etc?
Forend appears to be cut down, numbers are mismatched, but otherwise in nice shape. Bore is nice and shiny. Calibre is 6.5X55. Anyone looking for one?

Re: What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
hello Cantom,
you have 1 of the many model of Norwegian Krags. the handguard is correct but the stock has been cut back about 5 inches which is not good and you are also missing a stock band and spring that was obviously part of the piece missing. in the pics the barrel looks ok but can't see the front site to see if it was cut down. now heres the holy sh## suprise :O your model is the M1895 Cavalry Rifle and was made 1898 through 1906 with only 5800+ rifles made. now the wierd part your serial number falls i the Mountain Artillery rifle serial rage but teh placement or yout rear sling swivels says its a Cavalry rifle either way there hard to come by. if your rifle was not cut down you would have a 2500.00+ rifle. hte sporterizing has drastically reduced the price to maybe max of 1000.00 cause you also have a mismatched bolt w/the stock also looking sanded. if you plan to sell it i would start it with the 1000.00 price tag as you might get someone who need to plugs a hole in there collection till another one comes along but post very good pics like you did here and be honest about the rifle. I hope this helps.

Re: What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
Elli , From the lack of markings I'd think it is probably Norwegian in 6.5 .US krags are marked US Springfield Armory with model #. Danes are also marked with the armory name and are 8 mm . Here's a site that may help.

Re: What model is my Krag Jorgensen??
Hello,
thanks for sending the pics of your rifle. i had to do some quick refreshing. I am guessing that your rifle serial is 25102 or 28102 not 29102 as there is a 1916 in the 28,300 range now i have note seen it before but they could have used an old receiver but since your second number is obscured by what looks like a drilled hole ill have to use the info i have on hand to make a soild guess the 22,000+ serial block is 1913. ok on to the info you have a Model 1894 Norwegian Krag made in 1914 which is obvious on some of the info i gave :) Your rifle is a rifle made for the civilian use, NOT military due to no bayonet lug and your serial range. If it was a military rifle it would have been a 1xx,xxx serial range by this date. i hope this helps for a price its hard to say since you live in another country but worldwide unmessed with all matching examples are rare in any place of the world. A fair price i would place IF ALLLLLLL MATCHING would be 1,000 USD. if you take any other pics of the bolt and stock and other parts i would be intrested.
