I have a Bannerman carbine which was probably made from an 1896 carbine. It has the modified 1903 Springfield stock and the 1903-type front sight blade. My question is the rifle seems to have an "old" varnish finish. Did Bannerman apply this or was it done at a later time?
I'm thinking of removing the finish but don't want to do so if it might date from Bannerman's "manufacture" of this rifle.
Thanks in advance for any opinions.
