This American soldier stands perpetual watch with his Krag rifle amidst the live oaks draped in Spanish moss at the south end of Forsyth Park in the historic district of Savannah, GA.
Savannah is a beautiful small city on the Georgia coast with a rich history dating back before the American Revolution, if you are ever able to visit it won't disappoint...thanks all!

'gtbee80' - Thanks for posting, one of my favorite statues!
Franklin B. Mallory used it on the cover of "The Krag Rifle Story" and wrote:
About The Cover
"The Hiker", who appears at the entrance to the Arlington National Cemetery and at various other sites around the United States .....
... sculptor Theo. A. R. Kitson took considerable artistic license with the barrel band arrangement on the Krag rifle with which the figure is armed.

Savannah, Ga., is indeed quite beautiful.
The people of Georgia were very kind, as reported by Michigan Volunteers, during the SAW.
"Detroit Light Guard" troops on Daufuskie Island, S.C., for quarantine on return to U.S. from SAW action.
SAW Memorial on Belle Isle, Detroit. (I'll have to go check the accuracy of the Krag)!

This copy of The Hiker also stands in the small coal mining town of Shamokin, PA. According to Wikipedia, there are 52 of these spread around the country, with the original (made by Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson in 1906) standing at the University of Minnesota Armory. Another less common statue named The Hiker (by Allen George Newman) also stands in a number of locations around the country. If I'm not mistaken, one of those appears on the left side of the Belle Isle Memorial photo Butlersrangers posted above.
Does anybody else have any Hiker images?
