I had a non-functional safety on my 1898 rifle and when I took it off for further study found out with the help of Brophy's book (and a couple of astute gentlemen on another forum) that I had an 1892 safety! I assume that explains why it wasn't working!
What is the relative value of an 1892 vs. an 1898 safety? It appears to be blued but no "shine". Would like to get a correct one, obviously.
