--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My new Krag came today and I was very satisfied with it. It is an early Model 1892 modified to 1896 standards and has mostly 1896 parts. It was made in 1895 (it still has a faint, but readable 1895 stock cartouche). The stock was cracked but fixed professionally, so I knew that going in. The metal is worn but in good shape and the bore looks very good, although I haven't cleaned it out yet. The only 1892 parts I've noticed sofar is the receiver, stock and gate.

As you probably know, they only made 23,000 of this model and these are the ones which saw service in the Spanish American War, Boxer Rebellion and Philippine Insurrection. A near-perfect example of a Krag and it will fit in well with my collection. Pics below, including a comparative one with my 1903 Mark I.

Now-- how do you field-strip the darned thing? Very familiar with '03s but not with this! Pics below (I hope!).
