Model 1898 KJ carbine

Post by Harry Flashman »

Just bought a Model 1898 Krag 30-40. The receiver is stamped "U.S. Model 1898. Springfield Armory 200xxx". I cannot find a picture of it on this site. It is a carbine model. The stock is stamped 1899. It is not fitted for a lanyard ring on the left side. The rear site is an 1898. The front site blade is all the way forward, no bayonet attachment. The stock is immaculate and the blueing is about 90%. It has original sling attachments. The forward sling band is stamped with a "U".

The owner of the pawn shop I bought it at said he'd just received it yesterday. I snapped it up for $400 which included 60 spent shells and a Redding reloading die set.

I have been looking for a 30-40 rifle since I saw my brother-in-laws in 1972. He'd never sell his so this is my lucky day. I feel like it's worth every nickel I paid for it.
