Krag trigger improved

Post by Charles »

I took the bit in my teeth and went to work on the Krag trigger. It had a pull of a little over 6 lbs. I took a ceramic stone and polished the contact surfaces on the sear and bolt cocking piece. There was plenty of tool hickies on both. I ground off 1.5 coils from the trigger spring.

The results was a 3 lb. trigger pull. These is still some creep, but it is smooth and controlable. Vastly improved setup and still safe.

This is a simple, half hour, user trigger job that anybody can do without a trip to the gunsmith.

It would be possible to take some material off either or both the sear or cocking piece notch and remove the creep, It would also be possible to install a set screw to remove the first stage slack. But I think this is where I will stop. I have a trigger that will allow precision shooting and get all the accuracy the 107 year old girl has to give.
