:)
Postman just delivered a very nice 1898 rifle today. He shut down his truck and wouldn't leave till I opened it. (We share the same interests and live in a pretty rural area!)
It is a real beauty, at a very fair price and my second Krag,so I'm still a novice. I mainly collect WW1, so these are always impressive compared to the battle-hardened pieces I'm used to.
SN 446679, with 1902 sights. Everything appears correct, but there isn't a trace of an inspector's cartouche. Yet I can't say the stock appears to be refinished? If so, it was a very fine job. There is a faint "Circle P" cartouche behind the TG and above that a faint number "98" stamped?
Would anyone have any thoughts on this? Anything else to look for? Will post some pics as soon as I can get them snapped.
Oh, on top of the buttplate tang the number "47" is stamped. Possibly a Rack Number?
- Thanks and Best Regards! Mike
