Hello, I have enjoyed browsing this site and have decided to join. I have read everything I could find in the way of instructions for posts, if I do something wrong it's just another newbie stumbling. I have a model 1898, sporterized. The front site is mounted on a barrel band and is of the 03 type. The serial number is partially hidden by a Lyman reciever site but looks to be 476487. The original rear sight is removed and the screw holes filled in and stoned smooth. The stock is a custom stock with steel buttplate and grip cap, not that this is important to anyone except me, just FYI. Any information about the rifles history would be appreciated. I have owned it many, many years. It is the rifle I would keep if I could only own one
