Serial number question

Post by NewtonExp »

I'm new here. I have a Krag that has been my favorite fun gun for the past twenty years. I'm curious as to how it might have left the arsenal, before the guy with the hacksaw got to it.
It's a Model of 1896, serial 50561. It'll still shoot five cast bullets under an inch and a half at a hundred yards.

50561 would have been produced as a Model 1896 rifle.

It doesn't show up in the SRS listings: closest ones are 50270; listed as destroyed by the New Cumberland Guard in '29, and 50572; issued to Co. K, 6th Mass. Vol. Infantry in 1899.
