1894 Krag (30.40) Questions

Post by Greg »

Hello!

I am new to this site. I have had a 1894 US Springfield Armory (s/n 13576) for years. It is in excellent condition and fires quite well and accurate.

It measures 30 inches from end-of-barrel to the bolt. (31.5 inches from end-of-barrel to extreem end-of-bolt knob). It has the switch on left side of bolt for either single cartridge or magazine cartridge retrieval.

The sight is curved upward and levels at 17 (maximum). The butt has a trapdoor access for a cleaning rod.

There appears to be no attachment for a bayonnet fixture.

Is this a Calvery rifle?
What is its worth?
What is its background?

Thanks!

Your Model 1892 rifle unfortunately doesn't show up in the SRS listings. From the posted information, it sounds like your rifle was converted to 1896 specs., along with most other '92's. Does the stock have a long forend and is there evidence of a cleaning rod groove in the lower side of the forend being filled in?

Also, the rear sight ramp should be stepped and the grauations on the leaf should go to 1900 yds. if it's a '92 sight, or 1800 yds. with a curved ramp if a '96 sight.

The bayonet locked to a lug on the bottom of the upper band on these rifles.
