Krag 1898 Rifle
Krag 1898 Rifle
I was recently given a Krag 1898 rifle serial number 200129. It has a 30 inch barrel, 1899 cartouche and 1898 barrel sight. Im interested in learning a little about the rifle. Are these features consistent with the serial number range? What year was the rifle manufactured. How much should I expect to pay to get an appropriate sling to complete the rifle? Im a second-generation collector of 1899 Savage lever actions and Parker and A.H. Fox shotguns, and Im just starting to get interested in the early U.S. military rifles. Any insight anyone would care to share would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Re: Krag 1898 Rifle
Chris,
Given the serial number and cartouche date, the 1898 sight sounds correct to me. These were installed on '98 rifles produced from mid-1899 until July, 1900.

Hal Beatty
