Pocket oiler
Pocket oiler
Just curious; I have been interested in and shooting a Krag for many years and have heard about and seen some pictures in various Krag specific books of the rare Krag pocket oiler. Has anyone here ever actually seen this apparently elusive item? I have looked for 20 years or so, at all manner of shows, and have yet to see one first hand. I'm beginning to wonder if they ever actually existed in the real military.
Re: Pocket oiler
They did/do exist. They are very rare and hard to come by. We just saw one at the Baltimore show. A good friend and KCA founding member, Charlie Wheeler, had just picked it up.

Thanks. Seems like the East Coast and North East have all the good stuff.

Re: Pocket oiler
When you guys talk about "pocket oiler" are you referring to the one that goes in the butt with the ram rod, or another one entirely?

Another one entirely. It's Pocket Watch size and looks like a miniature canteen. I've only ever seen one (at a Michigan gun show). It was missing its cap/applicator and very expensive!

I think I saw that one too Chuck
Re: Pocket oiler
Looks like it would be the perfect thing to carry Hoppes#9 in, for using the applicator to dab a drop behind the ears when one needs to freshen up his "man scent"! :)

Re: Pocket oiler
A page from my "Firing Manual" giving a descrition of the Pocket Oiler.
I recently bought five Yugoslavian SKS Oilers on ebay. One had a messed up chain.
I plan to alter the top part of the oiler to make it a simple cap with a wire oil applicator.
The Yugo body is 1/2 inch smaller diameter and a totally different construction than the Krag Pocket Oiler, but, it will be a convenient simulation for my Range kit.
