I have just acquired a krag carbine marked 1895. serial #25486. unfortunately the original stock broke so it has a boyds replacement. a receiver sight has been added. hopefully someone can give me some info on this carbine. seems I am getting old us military cartridge guns. I have a 50-70,45-70, and now the 30-40. also is there a book I can get on these krags?

Even though your Krag carbine, #25486, is dated 1895, it is officially a U. S. model 1896 carbine. Hopefully, your receiver sight is one of the "No-Drill" types and did not require 'extra holes' in the receiver. New holes usually ruin collectability and restoration.
If you post some close-up photos of your Krag, you will get a lot of helpful information and guidance. (Especially important are clear pictures of front & rear sights and muzzle crown area).
If you 'moose-click' on "KCA Website", when it appears in the Banner at the top of this page, it will take you to a Main Page. If you select the 'Tab' marked "photos", it will allow you to see all kinds of useful Krag Stuff.
An inexpensive 'starter book' (around $20 USD) is "The American Krag Rifle and Carbine", by Joe Poyer.

'cooter303' - I don't recognize the make of your Receiver Sight. It is possibly Canadian? The sight is anchored with 'new tapped holes', which hurts collectability.
Your barrel appears to be a correct carbine barrel with an 'after-market' sight blade.
It looks like a 'good old been around' hunting rifle. If it were mine, I would enjoy it, as it is.
But, I would keep my eye open for an original model 1896 carbine stock. If I got lucky on that, then I would look into having any 'new holes' expertly filled.
Carbine parts tend to be quite expensive. The correct 1896 carbine rear sight sells for 500-600 USD! (The similar rifle version, only $45.00).

so what would the value of mine be. just curious. I traded an old beat up Winchester 73 for it. it was a parts gun but a shooter still.

Ballpark (IMHO) - $300 to 400USD. Value is tied to utility and collectible parts. It is hard to sell altered & sporterized Krags.

I came out about even on the trade. the krag is in better condition. the gun came out of seattle about 20 years ago. supposedly the guys grandfather was a rough rider. I don't know for sure.
