Experimental Krags with Maxim Silencers

Post by rcwarbirdpilot »

I ran across your site while trying to research a piece acquired years ago in my collection. It is a 1896 Rifle, ser. #415xx with coarse exterior threads on the muzzle. It does not have the knurled cap. I seem to remember that a few of these were altered for experiments using the Maxim Silencer. I'm trying to document as much of my collection prior to passing it off to my daughter. Thank you in advance for your help.

I've also seen a few that were threaded for the M-14 flash suppressor. A convenient way to get a front sight on, and make the rifle look more modern. The barrel is threaded 0.595" -32NS 3A threads for the castle nut. But if it was for a flash suppressor I would think there would also be some splines to locate it.
