A picture of the stock's 'action area' will get you helpful feedback. FWIW: The model 1898 Krag action will fit in any U.S. Krag stock. If the stock was intended for a model 1896 Krag, there will just be an extra gap around the bolt handle seat.

(p.s. - I was wrong. The Weaver mount uses four screws. Also, if that Lyman 'peep' sight functions 'ok', I would just use the existing sights on your project gun).Image

Well my stock came on Saturday and I put on the gun right away.

I'm really tickled about this project. It fit like a glove.

Now all I need to find is a butt plate, sling swievel, and a rifle band with swivel.

I've got a couple of leads for these items.

Thanks again and Happy Memorial Day to all. :)

ps I'll just use the existing sight on the gun. thanks again and I'll need to clean it up abit but not to much.

'chuck56':
Take some pictures to show your progress. The parts you mentioned show up on ebay all the time and at gun shows. You might contact the gentlemen in the KCA Classifieds, who sell parts.

It sounds like you put an original Krag stock on your sporter. What did you do with the added barrel-band to fit the barreled-action into the stock?

I'm glad you are not waiting till Winter to have some 'Krag Fun' !

I saw some parts on ebay and I've contacted a person on here via email and am waiting a response. >)

the stock is a 31" Jorgensen. it was at a very cheap price so I jumped on it.

I've been comparing this krag with one I inherited from my dad 10 years ago.

It was his fathers gun.

That one seems abit heavier and the barrel is approximately an inch longer than the one I'm working on.

Here's a pic of my grandfathers Krag"

'chuck56': It's neat you have your Grandpa's Krag.

Your 'new' project gun should be real fun when it's done. It looks like you got a real useful stock. The cut-down rifle stocks are nice for shooting, when they have not been thinned in the forearm and wrist.

Well I'm awaiting the rifle band swivel. It should be here in a couple of days. I got everything else.

Ran a cleaning rod down the barrel because it was full of cobwebs. Literally!

Once I get the swivel I guess I'll take it out back and see if she shoots. I'll take pics tomorrow,it turned out pretty good.

I'm wondering if the firing mechanism is weak because I tried it than tried my dads old krag and that one seems to have more of a bang to it.

I was also wondering if I should "clean the barrel up abit" with just gun oil and cotton cloth?

My buddy said to use fine steel wool on it and I said no way!
