Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine

Post by OR Hunter »

Hi All,
I recently acquired this trapdoor carbine from my Uncle. It's a Model 1884 and I was pleased to add an authentic trapdoor carbine to my collection. It was missing the saddle ring. The front sight blade and rear sight slider were broken. I replaced all of those parts with reproduction parts, but kept the originals. The rear sight ladder is marked "C". It still had the 3 sections of the cleaning rod in the trap, but no case extractor, so I bought an original to put in there. The bore still has rifling and quite a lot of pitting. The stock shows use, but the cartouche and firing proof are clearly visible. Someone stamped "PEERLESS 45" on the left side of the butt stock. If anyone has a clue to the meaning of that I'd like to know. Also, if possible, I'd like to know if there are any records for serial number 381424. Thanks and here are some pictures:ImageImageImageImageImage
