Yelp, there are good rifles out there for $750.
I was really fortunate to find a nice condition Model 1898 off the CMP Forum a couple of years ago for $650 shipped. Very good condition overall and shoots excellent. Pics attached.
Now a year or two before that I got really brunt on a trade from Maryland and ended up spending too much to get a shooter: new barrel installed, rear sight, handguard, etc. No collector's value but it shoots good.
So patience and keep looking.

Nice later Krag with a great cartouche. Great condition, great bore and shoots well! What more could you want in a Krag?
