My dad also passed to me his 1944-45 Colt Gov't model and I finally got it out to the range this week. At some point, I believe, the US markings were removed and the pistol was sold as it has a non-Colt serial number and markings on the right side. So it's a shooter. No problem there, I have several 1911's and .45ACP pistols. So I put in all new springs, a new barrel (the 1918 bbl in it was horribly pitted), and new grips. Shot wonderfully and even fed/fired/and ejected HP rounds.

I like your Dad's 1911. No sin in enjoying that one at the Range!
