Baltimoreed, if you have photos of the build it would be interesting to see how it was done. If not maybe some more photos with details on the mounts and rings. It would deserve it s own thread if enough details are provided.

This link shows a scoped Krag that is a real beauty. The owner said he uses it daily on his ranch. I think he must have a premium padded gun mount in his truck.

yes good find the weaver 440 and 330 are expensive and hard to find ... this is my version a Paul Jaeger scope mount ...

Those Paul Jaeger Q-D mounts are quite handsome! The system was quite similar to Griffith & Howe's.

I got a decent 7-Shot group at 50 yards shooting the Sierra 170 grain 'flat-nose' (30/30 bullet), powered by 44 grains of IMR-4831.

that group was good enuff for my book.

i tried and luved the "30-30" sierra, speer and hornady bullets in the 308 and the '06. (they were 150 and 170gr.) i and my little brother don't how how many deer fell to these bullets in sw PA. all i did was load them down to 2400-2500fps and the accuracy(100 yards) was good(1 - 1 1/2" , 5 shots). i'm trying to remember what powder, but i think it was 4895?, but don't quote me . (it was 25+/- years ago)

i use .311" 165gr ranch dog(173gr actual) with h4198 that goes 1930fps. i and my son have killed about 14-15 deer out to 170ish yards(my son's). i shoot them up close (under 50 yards) but i have killed a doe at 150ish yards.
