I found a Krag in my late fathers effects and need some assistance if possible.
* the numbers on the barrel all match. It’s a 1924 with serial number 26063. Barrel length is 24 1/2 inches. Where can I find some history on this particular model ?
Where can I find a stock , new or used or someone who can make a stock and associated brackets and cartridge size and supplier ?
Any idea on value?
Thanks in advance

Re: Krag ID help
"DM" - It is likely your Norwegian Krag, #26063, dated 1924, was a model-1912 carbine.
It was built at the Kongsberg Arms Factory, with an approximately 24" barrel, and chambered for the 6.5 X 55mm cartridge (also called, 6.5 Swedish Mauser).
Some parts show up on ebay and at Numrich Arms. Piecing a military rifle back together can be very expensive.
Pictures of your parts could enable an estimate of value.

Re: Krag ID help
Small pads of #0000 Steel Wool, wet with Hoppe's #9 Solvent and light finger pressure, will remove surface rust and leave original finish and patina.
Rust scale can be broken up and lifted by soaking with solvent and 'shaving' it, with the edge of a copper penny.

Butlersrangers,
Although I bring back many items back to life I never thought about using a copper penny, worked well, thanks. I completely disassembled and cleaned the rifle barrel and associated hardware.
Everything looks in great condition, at least to me. I have included photos before assembly, I believe the mechanics are all there. Whats missing, again in my opinion is one trigger guard screw, the stock and all necessary items
that would be included in the stock. Why is there little information out there pertaining to this 1924 model? Any idea on where to obtain the missing components and costs? and what the value may be when completed given the stock and stock metal pieces will not be the correct number? BTW, what is the SV9AZ designation?
Thanks,
DM

Re: Krag ID help
Numrich Arms has some Norwegian Krag metal parts listed in their online catalog.
Re: Krag ID help
Butlersrangers,
I will look them up. Attached are the photos of the internal components. I don't believe any of these are in need of replacing but... Any idea what the SV9AZ stamp may mean?
Thank you,
DM

Re: Krag ID help
'SV9AZ' is possibly the 'steel lot-number' of the barrel.
How does the interior of your bore appear?
The stud sticking up from the barrel, in front of the rear-sight, is a 'rest' for the sight-leaf. With the leaf folded forward, there is a "battle-sight" notch on the bottom.
(This is used to hit a man-size target, from point-blank to probably around 400 meters).

Re: Krag ID help
Actually the inside of the bore looks in good condition, no rust, etc. The riffling appear to be in tact and consistent. Photo is attached.
