We are on an organized group trip ("Road Scholars") in beautiful Vermont.
In the group is a married couple from Springfield, Massachusetts, who actually live in a home, on the east-side of the Water Shops Mill Pond, Lake Massasoit.
Upon meeting 'Peter', I told him we had just visited his city. I asked, if he had been to the National Historic Site of Springfield Armory?
His reply seemed quite sarcastic: "No, I suppose it's OK, if you like that sort of thing".
The old fart has since told a couple of ethic jokes, in front of the group, mocking 'Scottish Thrift'.
Our group-leader was born and grew up in Edinburgh. Eight of us in the 'Road Scholar' group, have Scottish surnames.
I don't see the week turning out well for this arrogant turd.
(His wife seems nice ....poor lady)!

Was about to suggest you meant to type "ethnic" - then I realized mocking "Thrift" is definitely about ethics.butlersrangers wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 2:28 am. . . a couple of ethic jokes, in front of the group, mocking 'Scottish Thrift'. . .

Parashooter, I guess we will find out tomorrow which was meant. I find typing on a regular keyboard to be a real pain. On a phone or a tablet has to be worse.Parashooter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 5:14 amWas about to suggest you meant to type "ethnic" - then I realized mocking "Thrift" is definitely about ethics.butlersrangers wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 2:28 am. . . a couple of ethic jokes, in front of the group, mocking 'Scottish Thrift'. . .
My parents grew up in the depression, being thrifty was never mentioned, it was just the way we lived. My 2 brothers seem to have been infected also. Never thought about it till you all brought it up.

Life is too short to waste time on knuckleheads. Just ignore him and enjoy your vacation.

Good advice!
I have been ignoring him, but, candidly snapped a picture, which I will edit and post later.
The man may very well have been Dr. Seuss' prototype for the Grinch.
The resemblance is uncanny and Dr. Seuss was from Springfield, Ma.
