This was the main reason i picked it up, the stories it could tell. Thanks for all the great info guys, bummer its not more original like I had hoped but good bore and good shooter. If anyone has anymore info on the low serial would be great to know.

Do the sights need to be turned?

sorry for the potato camera..

By all means rotate your rear-sight so the base properly fits the barrel contour.

You have a very peculiar front-sight. I don't recognize the source of the sight. (Maybe it is custom made from a Mauser sight)? The filler-screw in the barrel, behind the sight-band, is unusual.

You may have inadvertently enrolled in the "Feet of the KCA Club". (Probable sock tip circled in orange).

Scout up some ammo and enjoy your Krag, as is!

Well I might as well do things the bubba way except for ammo. Closer look at the front sight it does appear the be "formed" a bit to the barrel as if i might have been a bit oversized. If anyone has any more info on who or where this rifle might have seen service please reply

*price tag on silver tips says $4.75 lol any guess to how old it is.

I'm thinking late '50s -'60s for both boxes. I wouldn't shoot it. It's too cool. Especially that 220 gr silver tip stuff. It would be a waste of good Moose ammo to just blast it away plinking at paper or beer cans.

Do you have any other ammo on hand to shoot in 970?

stu1822 - Nice socks!

I don't recognize the origin of your 'banded' front-sight.
It is possibly (skillfully) fashioned from the cut-off stub of the muzzle section of a Mauser barrel?

Thanks figured if i was gonna be a member of the feet club might as well do it right, be glad i left the socks on lol

Thats what I'm thinking too with the front sight looks to have been worked a bit.

Saving that silver tip for vampires and werewolves of course.

Looks like you have a Model 1890 Winchester. Here is Two Ponies website with link to info on such. You can start a string in Other Firearms to discuss more on your "girls".

Hi,

Would you mind if I added your rifle's serial number to the KCA data base? Also have you found any numbers like "970" stamped on the individual parts of this rifle? If so would you mind sending me a list?

Thanks

Curt
