I get my European countries with a lot of snow mixed up.

So it was the Danes that had the rimmed cartridge (30 caliber) that is difficult to make brass for, since the case is so large?
Norwegians had the 6.5 X 55 Krag?
Swedes used a 6.5 X 55 Mauser but no Krags?

Getting old enough I need a program to keep them straight.

Added thought, if someone wants to help me keep these straight, maybe a donation of one of each nationalities Krags and 6.5s would me keep them straight. Shoot me a PM and I will give you the address to send them. :-)

'FredC', actually the Danish Krag cartridge has an 8 mm projectile. (8X58R cartridge)

I imagine the U. S. Ordnance Department could have saved a lot of bother and expense if they had just adopted the Danish Krag rifle, or a shorter and heavier barreled version of it.
The Danish 8 mm cartridge would have sufficed for U. S. Military forces, until the next generation of arms and munitions was developed.

IMHO - By WW-I, all of the early 1885 to 1898 small-bore 'smokeless' powder rifles and their original cartridge loadings were obsolete. Stuff was improving that rapidly!

8mm and 30 caliber are different but are neighboring peas from the same pod. Whoops again. You all really need to get me properly labeled samples of each of these rifles and loaded ammo so i can keep them straight. :-)

Looked at the thread where Danish 8 X58 ammo is discussed. Your photos do not show the extreme size I was expecting. The rims and the back of the case do not look to be in the 45/90 class. Yep, I do need samples in hand. Hint, hint.

Sure! Got you covered. You can have all the ammo you want from the Tunnel 7, rooms 8 to 27. Oh and bring a shovel. The last five hundred feet of Number 7 caved in when I was blasting out tunnel 9. The sad news is that is where the French 75mm cartridges are and I have been itching to do some Great War reenacting.

Culpeper,
That sounds rather difficult. Along with Br's reply I guess I will have to go on making mistakes and you all correcting me. :-)
