Hornady .308, 180 gr RN Interlock Bullets

Post by Olpeddler »

I have 300 Winchester Large Rifle primers left. I want to reload 200 rounds of .30-40 Krag and 100 rounds of the ancient .303 Savage cartridge.

My Model 1899 Krag cycles both of Hornady's 180 gr .308 bullets really well. i.e., the Spitizer and Round nose, but I prefer to reload the Round nose. My Savage Model 99 will only cycle the Round Nose, spitzers have to be loaded separately into the receiver.

I've been told that Hornady manufactures their .308 180 gr RN only on a "special run" basis. I have been unable to find that bullet at any of the internet warehouses. If anyone a has couple those boxes that will not be used, I would be glad to purchase them from you at a fair price. Hornady's box code is 3075.

Lastly, does any other manufacturer make a decent bullet of this type?

Thanks for any advice you can provide me.

I found a very similar bullet in 35 caliber (200 gr round nose) at Nagels in San Antonio. Out of the way gun shops may still have stock. I was looking for Serra 200 grain round nose, but they were gone. The higher priced interlocks were still there.

Dowdle's Sports company still has these in stock at $0.30 each. Excellent price. I ordered a few hundred more to make sure I never run out. I don't know how many they have left.

Wouldn't that be about $0.31 each bullet, plus shipping?

Yes. It was late after a long day out of town. Didn't notice I hit the wrong number. That's what sleep is made for! Still a good price today if they have more. Almost every other company is out of stock on many popular bullets along with primers and powder.

Good Morning Whig,

Thanks for the info on Dowdles. I just placed an order for 2 boxes of Sierra 180 RN's.
I have never reloaded any Sierra bullets, but I know a few reloaders who use them exclusively.

Also, thanks to all others who responded to my post on this.

Good luck! I have used Sierra's bullets for years, especially for some precision long range shooting with my .308. They are great for consistency and workability. Hope you have the same experience!
