Finally got around to shooting it yesterday and it didn’t do much. Patterning with a couple keyholes off the bench at 40 yds. I spent some time last night cleaning the bore, will continue cleaning it tonight. Whereas the 6.5 Swedish Mauser I picked up last month was grouping into an inch with my cast boolits and .25/.30-06 modified brass. I believe with jacketed bullets in correct brass it would do half of that. Very impressed with it.

Any rifling left in the bore? What ammo were you using? Most likely the rifling or bad muzzle. Re-crowning can help sometimes if you have good rifling.

Guess I've repeated myself, sorry when I shot it seriously at a 40 yd target off my bench and was very disappointed. Patterning, even a keyhole. The same 198 gr loads work fine in my other Krags. Well I’ve spent a couple hours working on the very nasty bore. Used up all my juice so I’ll pick more up today. The breech end is looking good but the last 10 inches at the muzzle need more work. The same load [140 gr cast #266469] in my Swede was grouping into an inch. I want to use the SRC Saturday at my cas clubs BAMM. But il carry my trusty PC rifle too.

We saw that one, thought it was the best Krag buy at the show. Not much metal finish means to me that it had a lot of history. Would have bought it myself if I was shopping for one, well done.
A lot of Krags there at fairly high prices, cheapest one was the one Tom was carrying but no bites on a 98 with Italian walnut stock for under $1000. New MD law on background checks might have slowed private sales and most dealers want to make 100% profit!

I shot it yesterday at our BAMM and was initially plagued with brass that didn’t want to eject clear of the action. I finally figured that I needed to really work the bolt rearward to get a positive ejection. How high should my ejector be when its in the ‘up’ position? Can they be bent a little to make them work better? We had a nice day, a good breeze. Six boltgunners and six cowboys. I came in 3rd even after a bad first stage, was clean too. Next to me is Chance and Rico Fardan, I’m the tall trooper. I carried a pair of .455 HE revolvers and used my Norinco trenchgun.
