I have experienced several partials (three that I can remember) like the photo in the first post. Never anything close to a total or a full annular. Hoping I live long enough to see both. Will drive a few miles west to get in the total, might as well get in the middle of the zone to make it last the longest. The possible bugaboo will be clouds. All those people that drive or fly thousands of miles to witness a full eclipse cannot be wrong, can they? I guess now would be a good time to buy a pair of welder's goggles, before the shortage happens.

My home appears to be right in the middle of the path — Medina County, Ohio. I’ll plan a smoked brisket, pork butt, chicken, beans, corn and beer on the back patio — any Krag heads are welcome to join me. Looks like it’ll happen around 15:15 at my location.

I’ll plan on making it a four day weekend to recover ;)

You know there can be only one Medina county in this country and it is in Texas! County seat is Hondo, home of the Hondo Owls and the famous sign.

Any way our Medina County is named after a Spanish explorer/mapper, I think. I grew up and graduated from high school in Hondo. Come to think of it the Medina River flows into the San Antonio River. We had a dam blow out on my place and a local geologist pointed out the rounded gravel in the washed out area and said that came from the Medina River. The San Antonio River is about a mile from my house, that is where the local game warden releases alligators. GRR!

Small world with at least 2 Medina counties.

In Texas there will probably be a lot of smoked brisket that day, probably a good idea to get it in advance. It may rival the 4th of July with all the cooking out.

P0H0,

I'm passing right through your area tomorrow on our way to our daughter's house in Mayfield Heights. We're stopping off at a gun shop in Lodi where I'm picking up some #10 percussion caps to shoot my Colt 1860 Army revolver made in 1862. It is just screaming for being shot for the first time in around 50 years. So, the detour to Lodi then onwards to Mayfield Heights will have us going through the Medina area. Too bad it won't be later on or I'd be on the lookout for some smoked pork shoulder! Sounds great!

If it wasn’t blowing at 60MPH outside I’d invite you to the gun range! Seriously though, if you’re passing by, give me a shout. I welcome ever opportunity to meet other collectors and shoot. :) I’ll block off 2024 eclipse week for spring vacation.

Now just to get those taste buds going… :P

Ya know Fred — Medina, OH has Medina, TX beat by 38-years…. It’s all right though, they say imitation is the best form of flattery. ;). Now if you want to bring up one of those wild pigs — not the foul tasting ones you warned us about — we can have us a Texas BBQ in O-H-I-O.

I used to live just outside of Austin lol.

Already passed through a few hours ago. The wind must have been blowing the wrong way. I didn't smell all that good stuff cooking. We stopped very briefly at the Log Cabin Shooting store in Lodi. Didn't have time to look around. We have to go back! It's a huge old time gun store, mostly muzzle loading and long guns, and an antique store with a museum. Loads of stuff to look at. I just needed one thing that they had and no one else did. Next time I might have to stop by for some of that bar-be-que cuisine.. Thanks.

First of the 2 eclipses is coming up. I ordered some lenses for my DSLR camera. This first one will be a ring of fire eclipse. I am not sure if the shadow phenomenon that I heard about will apply with it. On a total eclipse from the top of a hill you can watch the shadow from the eclipse approach at about 1000 miles an hour. Br, if you have any hills close by that will be in the totality zone, I heard that is really something else watching the shadow approach. I have a friend that is scouting out areas near Jourdanton which is where I will be anyway on the 14th. The effect may not be as good with this first (annular)
This is one time being in the crosshairs is a good thing.

Off-topic, but reminded me of a question - BR, why is the UP MI instead of WI? Has always seemed odd somehow.
