This website makes mention of the full list of Rough Riders — Cpl. George M. Kerney is listed in two Troops — Troop F and Troop I as a “Wagoner”. From the sound of things, Troop I was probably made up of men from all the Troops.

A Military Wagoner —
A Wagoner was a teamster who drove the wagons that either carried supplies (food, equipment) or the regimental baggage.

I had an idea and I dug deeper using Ancestry.com… Anyway, I think Cpl. Kerney was a fair bit older than your average volunteer —- I think he was 43-years old when he joined up with the Rough Riders. Here is what I found…

“ George M. Kerney (B: ~1855, Philadelphia; D: 29 May 1927) was admitted to the Sawtelle Pacific Branch Home for Disabled Veterans. He was described as 5'6" ruddy complexion, gray eyes, gray hair, Protestant, single, and a miner.”

You found some good stuff there for Whig, he'll be ecstatic with your finds. Below is a view of a portion of the Los Angeles National Cemetery where Cpl Kerney is buried.

Yes, I have copied all of this information to add to the collection of paperwork I have to document this neat Krag Rough Riders carbine. There aren't many of them around with real documentation. Lots of sellers like to say their Krag was made around the time when many of them were used in the Spanish American War but none have real documentation.

So, thanks all!
