Unfortunately for Sunshinebys, he’s having to restrict his buying options to Canadian offerings. My understanding is that purchasing a firearm from the U.S.and shipping to Canada is a very involved process. See attached link below:

Was that U.S. or Canadian Dollars?

$1.00 USD = $1.32 CD - ($1200 Canadian = $906.34 US / $1200 US = $1588 Canadian)

Way too expensive, either way!

One gun item, that can easily cross the border is gunstocks.

Prestige Gunstocks in Canada makes replica US Krag stocks and replacement forearms. They often list carbine stock replicas on eBay.

Late to the party, but I second all that has been said, especially the kudos for having the brains to ask first! That guy's GRANDkids will still be waiting for the "firm $1200." Waay overpriced - in fact, IMHO, $400 is the absolute tops for something like that, even with a good bore. 99% of potential Krag buyers want unaltered guns.

BR — I purchased my stocks from Prestigious Wood Stocks for the Krag rifles. Here is my honest feedback and experience:

1. DO NOT buy the stock off the Prestige website — the prices seem to change frequently and I feel it gives you a false sense of getting a deal. Instead shop the same Prestigious Wood Stocks off of eBay and make sure you change the setting to USD.

2. SHIPPING IS SLOW — I get that it is in Canada, but holy cow it at takes a while.

3. “MINIMAL FIT UP AND FINAL SANDING” is and outright lie. I avoided the “B” grade stocks and purchased the “A” stocks and found they were roughly cut to final dimension - It looked like a beaver had roughly shaped it and called it good. The front band did not fit and needed a ton of sanding and shaping. Same with the middle band and the step up the band rests against on the stock needed to be shaped and sanded. The cross pin to retain the middle band will need to be drilled. A lot of work had to be done to properly fit the action as well. The butt stock will need a ton of sanding to bring it down to the correct dimension and you will need to drill screw holes for the butt plate. Also, you will also have to cut out the recess for the lower swivel. The finger grooves were extremely rough and needed sanding.

4. IF YOU’RE NOT SCARED OFF YET — or you just don’t have other options — The matching matching Hand guard will need to be inlet for the sight, and you will need to make your own barrel clips and install (I used copper rivets — some others have used nails).

5. A POSITIVE NOTE — it’s pretty wood.

Holy Cow — That looks like the beaver in BR’s post!

Here’s some photos with the rifles completed… I sent them off shortly after to Griffin & Howe to have them rust blued — they are due back in about a year.

That is not an accident. I spotted it this time and it jogged my memory; I have seen that beaver before. Recycled laughs do not get old.

I am sure your heads up on the amount of work needed on the stocks will be appreciated. Sometimes there is no other option. Going into it with your eyes open beats a nasty surprise.
