Source for 30-40 Krag Brass?
I recently bought an 1898 Krag rifle, but I can't find any source for brass. Does anyone know of a source that has 30-40 brass in stock? I have some backordered with Optics Planet, but they keep pushing back the shipping date.

Welcome. Nice Krag rifle. There is brass out there but you need to search. Try this company. I have heard people have been positive about their purchases from here but have not used them myself. The .30-40 Krag brass seems to be in stock.

I have had a back order for 45/70 brass from Optics Planet for over a year. About 6 months ago I checked at an old family-owned gun store, and they came out with a bag of 45/70 Winchester cases. That is all that I needed, so I did not even ask if I could get to bags. On line places may sell out fast, where old family stores will order what they think their long term customers want and be a little slower in moving them.
Re: Source for 30-40 Krag Brass?
That's very true. In my travels, I have found many older boxes of Remington .30-40 Krag ammunition, often at great prices, at smaller local gun stores. Sometimes it helps to ask what's in the back store room. Many times the price on the old box hasn't been changed (updated) for many years. I have bought some boxes for less than 50 cents a round over the past 5 years or so. A lot of places have the price at $2 or more a round. That's why I like reloading! Same finding with brass. Keep looking!

Thanks for the suggestions, I have contacted etbrass.com but their in-stock page doesn't list any 30-40 brass. I'll keep looking, thanks again.

While waiting for some .30-40 Brass to become available, you can improvise a 'stopgap'.
Graf & Sons has Prvi .303 British Brass.
.303 British Brass can be FL Sized in a .30-40 Die to make substitute cases.
They will be slightly short but will work.

Have heard that before - will they lengthen enough in use to be "correct" before they have to be thrown away? I suppose that depends on the load - possibly you could get 5 or 6 (just guessing here, maybe more - even many more - are possible) full-power uses, and them relegate them to plinking use?

Re: Source for 30-40 Krag Brass?
It is better to have a less than perfect option than no option.
I suspect 're-purposed' .303 British Brass would last as long as .30-40 Brass.
Probably, the biggest problem would be the lack of a 'bevel' on the edge of the .303 case-rim.
This might introduce 'rim locks' and magazine feed issues?
This could be remedied by 'spinning' the case in a drill and filing a slight rim bevel.
