This cut-down U.S. Krag rifle stock just sold on eBay.
Outside of the civilian alterations, it looks to be in rather nice shape.
It has a Cartouche, dated 1895.
The 'thin wrist', filled 'cleaning-rod' channel, and the small metal block (in the 'action-ring' area),
reveal it to be from a model 1892 rifle that Springfield Armory updated to model 1896 features.
Someone removed a lot of stock wood from the 'action ring' area, for now unknown reasons.
Otherwise, the stock looks very 'crisp' and would be a good candidate for splicing on a new forearm to restore an early U.S. Krag.
