eBay mystery?

Post by butlersrangers »

My imagination is working hard to explain the purpose of the small hole, drilled through this Krag 'striker-rod'.

A DEWAT measure to use a cross-pin to maintain spring-function, with the firing-pin removed?

To retain a simplified 'homemade' firing-pin with a cross-pin?

To adapt the striker-assembly for a shorter 'lighter' mainspring?

Bubba just couldn't help himself???

Perhaps for one of the various .22 caliber iterations?

Things you find when looking for something else!

I recently conjectured the purpose of this 'odd' eBay Krag part.

Dick Hosmer was in the ballpark.

It is a Krag .22 cal. GP rifle 'striker-rod'.

Mallory shows a similar GP rod (and firing-pin) on page 115 of "The Krag Rifle Story", second edition.
I don't grasp the exact purpose, but I kind of learned something new, today.

I had recalled reading - long ago, and way before I owned one (whose bolt I've not taken apart) - that the .22 striker was "different" but never bothered to understand how, or why. Now, I suppose I'll have to dig it out and look!
