If not announced previously, I have found my old file, compiled over the years, of 1898 carbines that I had reason at the time of entry to believe were genuine. I only saw a very few of them in person and was not keeping track of physical details. All that I can say is that I did not enter anything I felt was funky, though I'm sure many/most of them are now long-stocked. None of the numbers - which will be added to our list sometime this year - show in SRS as rifles. There are about 190 entries, some of which we already knew of, but it will still be a rather significant increase.

That's quite an addition to our small list, Dick. It sure would be nice to know which ones, or how many, are still in the short stocks with the sling and ring and Model 1896 rear sight. Thanks.

Yes, it would, but the list is from long ago, and I just wasn't noting thaings like that, unfortunately. Most of them are from SRS, which clarifies their validity. At one time, I was a big proponent of feeding the SRS numbers into our list, so we'd have ONE place to go, buit, several factors have changed my mind about using the whole thing. However, I DO plan to enter Frank's list of "significants", the 98Cs, the Pribilofs, etc.

Sure looks good to me and has a great serial number 123905. Link is:

So we can add yet one more to the small list of authentic M1898 carbines! Another rare early one also.

We need more. 13/5002= .26%. We're just shooting up in those percentiles!

I haven't kept this list up-to-date and, if I have missed any, please add the name and serial number to keep this going.

M1898 carbines so far (Rearranged based on serial numbers):

128176 JDR (in the UK)

I just saw this thread. I have visited here only occasionally since I acquired my one and only Krag a couple years ago. I thought from the serial number that it was a cut down rifle but after posting here with pictures you guys informed me that I was reading the number wrong and it was indeed an 1898 carbine serial #131646. It's an arsenal rebuild so not original. Not real sure how to research old threads here but I'm sure you fellas can find my old posts and photos.
