The 1st Ohio Light Artillery - One man's snap shot.

Post by Culpeper »

Private Youse must have had the wanderlust in his soul. He must have needed some excitement in his life after he was mustered out the 1st Ohio Light Artillery on October 23, 1898. He apparently remembered and was impressed by Lieutenant C. D. Roberts of the 17th Inf. Lieutenant Roberts would receive the Medal of Honor, in June of 1899, for actions in El Caney, Cuba on July 1, 1898.

Youse enlisted into Company K of the 17th. on December 28, 1898. Six weeks later he would be in the Philippine Islands. I can't say I blame him for wanting head off into the unknown. A lot of guys must have felt cheated that Cuba did not last longer than a few months.
