Reloading

Post by Himmelauferden »

Hello all a beaten down topic but I am looking for a proper load for a Norwegian krag in 6.5x55mm. If anyone has any recommendations power, primer, bullet etc that would be great.

Welcome to the Great Forum this side of Alpha Centari, Himmelauferden. The other guys will be along in a bit.

I am not versed on the 6.5 round but I think any safe recipe in the load books will be good to go..

About all the 6.5x55 loads I could find on the Hodgdon Reloading website were within Norwegian Krag limits.

I am getting one half minute groups at 300 yards, with this load: 140 grain Hornady ELD match bullets, 41.0 grains of H4350, Remington 9 1/2 primer, PPU brass.
Seat C.O.L. 3.050", I have not cronographed this, but the book velocity is 2,500 fps, case trim to 2.155".

I shot this load at 600 yards, with rear sight set at 600 meters, with 6 o'clock hold on black, standard military 600 yard open sight target.
Shots were over top of the target, with a friend spotting, I shot into dirt berm beside my target. After lowering sights several times, about 455 meters on the sight looked good.
I then fired 10 shots on the target, the result was, 6 10's and 4 x's. The old 6.5 Swedish will shoot! The brass info plaque on the stock listed my barrel as a no. 1.
