Regrets unable to upload pics due to their size however
the serial number of my Krag that’s been in the family for over 80 years follows;
Model 1898 Springfield Armory Serial Number 172984
Any history about this beautiful and fully intact rifle most appreciated.

'eodiver' - Welcome to the KCA Forum.
Your U.S. Model 1898 Krag rifle, serial number 172984, was likely assembled at Springfield Armory in February of 1899.
It would have been equipped with the model 1896 rear-sight, when first produced.
The sights were likely updated later, during an arsenal rebuild.

Thanks for the information and yes, those are the sights on this rifle. I’ll shrink the pics to post.

Re: Seeking Info on Krag
It looks like you have an attractive, complete and solid, Model 1898 Krag, with a model 1902 rear-sight.
How is the bore condition?
(BTW - Your rifle is wearing a U.S. model 1907 sling, that was originally developed for the Model 1903 Springfield rifle).

Re: Seeking Info on Krag
Re numbers, don't think I've ever seen that before - a sequential bracket. Really too bad we don't have info on yours, 'cause I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it was for yet a different unit.
Nice rifle; and welcome to the group!
