Remington 07/15 Berthier and the Road to Camp Perry

It looked like it was going to be a nice afternoon without the Spring monsoons. Rain was supposed to blow in later on but it showed up early. Dang it. I shot ten from the bench just before the clouds started to get dark. Note the aiming point was at the bottom of the target. Wish I could shoot that well in the standing position. I know the answer to the pair of 7s. Me.

These were ten of the rebuilt factory ammo.

Today's results were not pleasing to the eyes or comforting to the mind. Don't get me going on the soul. It was crushing, though.

More thought is needed and that taller front sight, too. I did have one ruptured case much like the initial two in February.

Now I've really done it. This road leads to madness. I took the Remington to a gun smith to have a new taller front sight blade put on the barrel. Should be a month. I also asked for a new ring to be installed on the barrel band. Some chuckle head cut off the original in the mists of time.

Alrighty. The Berthier is back from the mechanic's shop. I took her out early last week with #112 for aa shoot fest.

Hooboy is the sight tall. I forgot to bring my file to the range so nothing was changed that day. The aim point was again top center. Shots six and seven were just off the paper. I think the vertical stringing is all me since other photos showed the gun can shoot.

Never let it be said that my life is uneventful. Hold my beer. There I was thinkin' again. I figured I needed a control for the 175 grain FB test so I dug into the "pile" to find either the 2011 purchase or the 2020 purchase of ammo. Found the 2011 batch. YEAH! Found it! Then it was NOOOOOOO! That is the ammo I've had trouble with split cases and shoulders. I bought 25 boxes and can only account for 24 of them. You know me. Mister never throw any brass. Where is the missing box? It's somewhere and it'll turn up.

Then there is the challenge of digging into the pile to find the second order. Range Day is Monday

I tell you what the heat in the last couple of days reminds me of Djibouti. Hot, No wind, and Humid. Best of all no frostbite. A buddy describes conditions as brutal. And brutal is what was even under the shade of the rifle pad. The local weather types claim 98 degrees today.

I have the rifle is set for one hundred yards at the moment. At least I hope it is set. All the testing and filing was from a front rest and rear sand bag. The next local CMP match is Saturday so I will see how the man can handle shooting with a sling in a real test. Fingers crossed.

I still need to figure out what I want to do with it about Camp Perry. Keep it set for 100 and use kentucky elevation at Perry or set it for 200 and aim low for local matches.

I have been watching your French 8MM adventure with interest. I travel down that Label rabbit hole from time to time.
Here is about the best I have found in my shooting and reloading adventures so far with my Berthier rifles and carbines. For years I scrounged old Remington Green Box hunting ammo. Pulled the bullets and pushed out the vintage primers. Good brass but hit and miss trying to find a tattered vintage box at the gun shows. My local gun shop recently took in an estate that included guns and reloading stuff. He calls me when this happens. I went to investigate and discovered two large ammo cans full of new manufactured 8MM Label brass in 100 round bags with Graf headstamps. Guy says "what is that stuff"......? So I bought it all. I'm set!

Culpeper - How is the trigger-pull on your Remington Berthier?

I'm not sure of the 'position' used, to fire the latest targets; is a sling being used with the 'restored' side-ring?

I imagine a sling may give weird uneven results, if it is 'anchored' in a 'loop', on the left-side of the barrel-band?
