Frankford Arsenal 1907 Bench Reloading kit

Post by reincarnated »

Lot 567 of the current Cowan Auction is what looks like a pretty complete set up for both 30-40 and the New Springfield cartridges. Read about the press, etc in Phil Sharpe's Complete Guide to Handloading. These are really rare.

Lots 1042 & 1043 are Army issued reloading kits for 45-70, but those have only tong tools.

Lots 797 and 1148 are original Mills belts.

Is there any interest in this thing? I read somewhere that there were only 25 sets made. I thought it was in Sharpe, but just looked & could not find it.

I looked them up in Col. Brophy's books on the Krag and the '03's. He doesn't mention number made, but that they were available at a regimental level. The implication being that there were more than 25 sets. Either way, when I see individual components offered, they bring pretty good money. I'm sure as a set they are extremely desirable.

I just checked the auction results on line. This set brought $4,112.50 (including the buyer's premium of 17.5%).

Plus shipping for the green box, plus an outer box. Zowie!! I was going to bid $550, but Cowan's would not accept my bid. Probably saved everyone something.
