basic krag identification

New to the KCA, and I have a question I'm sure has been answered a thousand times over: using there model and serial numbers of my Springfield Krag, how and where can I research the provenance of my gun. I am interested mostly in learning what modifications may have been made to it, and what original features I may be overlooking. Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you are very lucky, your number will be among the 5% of the data that has survived - if you are not, that is pretty much the end of the road, to be realistic about it. As to features, please post serial number and good clear pictures - we can tell you, pretty closely, what is correct, and what most likely is not correct.
